The focus of the first tip of our Intention and the Right Actions series if to practice some form of what the author Julia Cameron calls ‘morning pages.’ The idea is to get down onto paper the different things that cross your mind to help you organize yourself and your approach to the day. Cameron stresses that there “no wrong way” way to do this.Morning pages can include all the personal and professional things that cross your mind, or they can focus on one or the other. This process can center on the creation of a prioritized checklist of tasks for the day.
Christina DesMarais shares that “doing morning pages to relieve my consciousness helps to remove these distractions first thing and help me to start my workday right.” Cameron also employees this technique in the form of a task list. DesMarais adds that “I’ve created a habit where I write down these tasks and put them aside in an effort to clear my head. With this exercise being done before my coffee is poured, I feel so much more happy and relaxed to handle the more significant initiatives throughout my work day.” There are many strategies for helping you organize your approach to the day and its essential to find one that works for you. If you don’t do so already try some form of morning pages during your work week and try to generate a succinct set of prioritized tasks to check off throughout the day. See if the technique helps you focus and improve your sense of accomplishment.
