Coming Up With Questions For Your Interviewer

by Dec 17, 2019

It’s a moment we’re all familiar with: your would-be employer has finished asking all of the questions they have prepared for you. And now it’s your turn to investigate. What will you say when you’re asked if you have any questions for them? Remember, you’re interviewing them just as much as they’re interviewing you! You want to make sure the organization is a good fit for you so you’ll be producing great work. Keeping this approach in mind is also an excellent way to take some of your nerves away! Just in case you’re feeling stuck, we’ve assembled a few sample questions for you.

  • “What is a typical day at your organization like?” This is a quick way for your would-be employer to provide insights into what you’ll be doing on a day-to-day basis as well as who you’ll be interacting with and the sort of timeline in which your boss will be expecting you to complete your tasks.

  • The next interview question suggestion comes from Glassdoor: “What’s your favorite part about working at the company?” This easy to remember query shows that you’ll approach your work with a positive attitude while allowing you to glean key insights into the organization’s culture. Which will help you figure out the best way to make yourself indispensable to the company from day one!

  • Our final question comes from The Muse: “What types of skills is the team missing that you’re looking to fill with a new hire?” The company wouldn’t be interviewing you if there wasn’t a need for a new employee. This is an excellent chance to remind both yourself and your would-be employer that you are going to be a necessary component in future success.

If you get stuck in the moment or if the interviewer has already told you everything you wanted to know, you’re not out of luck–if you need something to fall back on, you can still show your interviewer you care about the position and were paying attention by referring back to specifics from earlier in the interview. Since your final impression is just as important as your first, make sure you and your potential future boss part ways with them remembering you as enthusiastic and committed.
